Leaning In: Why Burton Goods Is Becoming RBH Goods Co.
I'm leaning in.
We started Burton Goods with the middle name of my dad, Richard Burton Holmes. Now I want to lean more into his legacy, so we're transitioning Burton Goods to RBH Goods Co.
My dad was born in Minneapolis in 1925 and grew up just a few miles from where our historic warehouse sits on the banks of the Mississippi. He graduated high school, served at the end of WWII, then married my mom and went on a world tour with four kids in tow. I was a surprise who came 10 years after the fourth kid. Mom thought she had malaria. Nope!
From Afghanistan to Germany to Liberia, my dad worked as a radio and electrical engineer, finally settling down in Minneapolis with me when I was four years old.
When we set up this company to honor him, we focused on three principles: Loyalty, Precision and Beauty.
My dad was a loyal father, husband and friend. Hundreds of people came to his funeral years ago and shared stories of his kindness, his loyalty and his friendship. At RBH Goods Co., we want to treat our customers and our vendors the way Dad would have expected: with kindness and loyalty.
Dad was an electrical engineer who loved working with his hands and getting involved, whether he was fixing the car, a circuit board or building a new workbench. Whatever the task, he strove for quality and precision, and it rubbed off on me.
Finally, my dad appreciated technology, especially the beauty of new and emerging technology. I know for certain my love of all things tech came from him. It's why designing, packaging and shipping beautiful leather accessories for my favorite tech devices feels like a dream come true.
So we're leaning in to Richard Burton Holmes. RBH Goods Co. will be exactly the same company you've come to expect from Burton Goods, but now it carries his whole name, not just the middle of it. The same people, the same products, the same care, with a little more of Dad in every one of them.
Every time we pack an order, I want it to be something he'd be proud of: loyal to the people who trust us, made with the precision he taught me, and beautiful enough to deserve a spot next to the tech we love. That's what those three letters mean to me.
Thanks for being part of the story.
